Beast Quest is series of novels.
Main characters
- Tom is a twelve-year-old boy who is chosen to complete all the Beast Quests. He lives in Errinel where there is not much to do until he goes to the king's palace seeking help. Tom does his Beast Quest in honour of his anonymous father; during the quest it is quite obvious Tom follows in his footsteps. In his first Beast Quest Tom's goal is to free the six beasts of Avantia. In the second series Tom has to collect the pieces of the Golden Armour that Malvel has stolen. Tom goes on the quest to destroy the monsters and get back the most precious relic of Avantia. In series three Tom must save the six beasts of Avantia so they can protect Avantia, however Malvel has created six new evil beasts, that Tom will have to destroy. In Vedra and Krimon Tom must transport the two twin dragons Vedra and Krimon to Rion where they can be safe from Malvel's evil clutches. In Spiros the ghost phoenix Malvel has kidnapped Tom's uncle and aunt. In series four Tom meets his father and has to turn him back into a human because his father is a ghost and he must find the pieces of the amulet and they are guarded by Malvel's evil ghost beasts. In series five he must free the good beasts of Gwildor and get items to help him defeat them. He finds out Velmal, Gwildor's evil wizard, has put a spell over Freya, mistress of the beasts of Gwildor and Tom's mother. In number six Velmal has poisoned Freya and Tom must get six potion ingredients guarded by Velmal's beasts. In number seven Tom has to enter Tavania and rescue six beasts causing havoc because they're far from home.
- Elenna is a girl who joins Tom on the Beast Quest. She is very independent and is helpful at times. She lost her parents in a fire and escaped home from her aggressive uncle. Most unfortunate things on the quest, like getting poisoned, usually happens to Elenna. Many fans have noted that Elenna may have romantic feelings for Tom. Elenna turns against Tom in The Combat Arena, in Mortax the Skeleton Warrior. She faces her greatest fear, fire, in Hellion the Firey Foe, but manedges to stay strong. Elenna is an expert archer and carries her bow and quiver of arrows every where. She has saved Toms life just as many times as Tom has saved hers. What ever beast it is Elenna is always ready to help Tom face a new Quest.
- Storm is Tom's reliable jet black stallion. He is useful if you want to make a good escape or to travel. Storm is compulsory on the Quest.
- Silver is Elenna's pet wolf. He is very swift and is reliable with his great sense of smell.
- Blizzard is Elenna's new white mare. She is given to her in Koron, Jaws of Death. She stays in Avantia in series 9 because she is safer there, not in Seraph.
- Aduro is a good wizard residing in the palace of King Hugo; he is able to tell Tom and Elenna all their important quests and what to do save the land of Avantia. In series 2, Aduro is captured by Malvel but in the next series Tom frees him by wearing all the golden armour. In Arax the Soul Stealer he is turned into Aduro the Bad.
- King Hugo is the king of Avantia, and makes sure the kingdom is always full and wealthy.
- Taladon the Swift is Tom's father. In Series 4(The Amulet of Avantia) he is a ghost but Tom saves him and he is given the job of being the Master of the Beasts.
- Marc is Wizard Aduro's apprentice. In Arax the Soul Stealer Marc helps Tom and Elenna to save Wizard Aduro. In Creta the winged terror he helps Tom find a healing spring. In series 6 he mixes the potion to save Freya, Tom's mother.
Villains
- Malvel is the Series's main antagonist. He is a Dark Wizard who is constantly trying to take over Avantia but always gets defeated by Tom and his friends. In the third series he is weakened greatly and in the fourth he is banished from Avantia. During forty second book he is captured and put in King Hugos dungeon. He then escapes the next series.
- Seth is Malvel's servant. In the quest to save Vedra and Krimon twin beasts of Avantia Seth delays the quest with his deadly tricks. In Beast Quest: The Dark Realm, He makes an appearance in Skor the Winged Stallion when Tom and Elenna climb out of the canyon, and he makes an appearance in Tusk the Mighty Mammoth at the rebels camp. In Sting the Scorpion-Man, Malvel punishes Seth for his failure to defeat Tom and Elenna, and so turns him into Sting. In Sephir the Storm Monster, he and his sister Setherina ride Ferno away and are never seen again.
- Setherina is Seth's older sister. She disrupts Tom's quest to rescue his Aunt and uncle in Beast Quest: Spiros the ghost-phoenix, and is let go to escape after a deal she and Tom made.
- Velmal is an evil wizard just like Malvel but instead he lives in Gwildor and put a curse on Freya the Mistress of the Beasts (Tom's mother) and all the good beasts of Gwildor. He also went to Kayonia with Freya and made 6 new bad beasts that Tom must destroy in series 6. He is killed by Freya.
- Sanpao comes to Avantia to find the Tree of Being with his crew. With it he will create portals to rob every kingdom. He controls six beast with the mast of his flying pirate ship that is made from the Tree of Being. Sanpao takes Toms magic belt and says while there's grogg in my veins. He is captured in series eight.
- Petra is Malvels apprentice and is powerful enough to take on Aduro. She brings back Mortaxe to take on Tom and disappears at the end of the book. In series 9 she and Malvel try to burn the warlocks staff in the eternal flame.
Villagers
- Cook is the lead role for preparing the palace's food.
- Calum lives in the west of Avantia where the shores are. His family (father, and sister)go out in their boats which are being limited since Sepron keeps smashing them anytime they are in the sea. The reason they fish is to make sure the village stays plentiful, and Avantia stays plentiful. In series one, Calum's village cannot fish because Sepron is also killing or scaring away the fish.
- Jack and his family (father) and the rest of the villagers live in the north part of Avantia. Jack helps his fellow villagers trade around Avantia seeing that the northern part of Avantia
has a lot of goods. In series one Jack has problems trading because Arcta keeps sending landslides and delaying or stopping the traders from trading.
- Victor and his father, Adam and the villagers live in the centre of Avantia in the grassy plains, which is good for raising cattle. In series one where there's a big cattle drive to some villages for trade, and Tagus keeps scaring the cattle away delaying the trade which will cause hunger to Avantia.
- Albin is a young boy who loves playing soccer and lives in the north of Avantia, a bit far away from where Nanook lives.The village inhabitants are called the Nomads. Where Albin lives is a very good place to grow plants that create medicine,to protect Avantia from illness, and Nanook is destroying them.
- Brendan lives with the Nomad clan. As he travels along the Icy Plains he bumps into Tom and Elenna and lends them his sleigh.
- Owen is the son of Raymond. One time he was travelling through the caves near his village and found Epos. And just when Epos was going to attack, Owen escapes and so happens to find a piece of Taladon's armour. Later he gives it to Tom. In his area of Avantia Epos is living in a volcano and might blow up Avantia, seeing she is igniting the volcano with heat. The reason Owen's village lives near the volcano is because the soil near the volcano is good for growing crops. In Stealth the Ghost Panther he and all the villagers were turned evil.
- Raymond is Owen's father. He is the head of the village and makes sure everyone is safe. He rescued Tom after he was attacked by Epos, and also trusted Tom with him and the villagers lives, when he guided them through the cave.
- Lindon is a fisher who is very cocky, selfish, and obnoxious. He is very testy, and give Tom a boat to see if he can survive the whirl pools Zepha is creating.
- Farmer Gretlin does his farming in the village of Errinel. One time, when he was using his oxen to improve the soil, Soltra the stone-charmer looked at him, and so turning Farmer Gretlin and his oxen were turned to stone. This feature is very similar to the gorgon Medusa. Later Farmer Gretlin is released from his stone-case by Tom, and so are his oxen.
- There is a woman in Vipero the snake-man who leads Tom, Elenna and the animals away from the blistering heat of the desert. They enter a small room that is packed with people, with very little water, and fear of disease. Her name is unknown. She has a son who is very sick but is healed when Tom trades Aunt Maria's herbs, for water to survive in the desert when facing Vipero.
- Etta and her friend Dorina travel to the mouth of a cave on a rocky mountain. Etta is there because she is finding what her father says are the best crystals in Avantia. As she looks for these crystals, she is unfortunaely captured by Arachnid, but is later rescued by Tom and Elenna.
- Dorina is Etta's best friend and she goes to the mouth of a cave with Etta. When she discovers the reason Etta hadn't returned for a long period of time she is very upset. Tom and Elenna find her grieving for Etta's loss. She then allows the two companions to stay in her home. Just when Tom and Elenna sneak out she caught them but then allowed them to go find Arachnid.
- Hector is a villager in the land of Gorgonia. One day in the woods, he stayed out late and the rule in Gorgonia is to not stay out at night. Hector is chased by Torgor and witnesses the deaths of two Gorgonian Rebels.
- Gorgonian Rebels are a group of people who will defy Malvel, and try to reclaim Gorgonia. Because Malvel's power is too much for them all they can do is foil one of his minor plans.
- Gorgonians are the twisted natives of Gorgonia. Once good villagers, turned evil by Malvel's magic.
- Hallam was a Gorgonian Rebel travelling through a jungle when a snake coiled around him leading him to fall off a very steep hill. Afterwards he wakes up finding himself in Skor's territory and is attacked. Probably dead.
- Odora is a Gorgonian Rebel who travels on the sea trading weapons which is forbidden by Malvel. Afterwards Narga destroys their boat and kills her brother, Dako. Later she is found with Elenna, while Gorgonians throw stones at each of them. Shortly after a close escape, Odora insists on helping Tom, and Elenna but is told to go back to the Gorgonian Rebel camp. They meet Odora again, in her camp, and help them to defeat Tusk.
- Marco is a Gorgonian Rebel who keeps look out for his camp. He spots Tusk just before he rams through the camp, and is able to save everyone.
- Castor is a fisherman's son in Gwildor. He was attacked by Krabb when the Beast was evil and got poisoned by Krabb's venom. However, the blister faded, unlike Tom's.
- A woman in Gwildor's farming areas shows a picyure of Tom and Elenna to the two friends. They discover the location of the ring using the picture.
Beasts
- Ferno the Fire Dragon lives in the mountains that are near the river, right next to Errinel, his job is to keep the crops and river well, however when he was under Malvel's curse he was burning crops and drying out the river. He helped Tom defeat Claw the Giant Ape. He was kidnapped by Tusk the Mighty Mammoth.
- Sepron the Sea Serpent lives in the western seas next to Calum's village. His job is to keep the sea full of fish for fishermen and protect the sea, however when he was under Malvel's curse he was driving fish away and causing tidal waves. He helped Tom defeat Zepha the Giant Squid. He was captured and almost killed by Narga the Sea Monster.
- Arcta the Mountain Giant lives north in the cliffs. His job is to keep the road clear for traders and protect the villagers from things like land slides. However when he was under Malvel's curse he was blocking the road for traders and was causing land slides. He helped Tom defeat Soltra the Stone Charmer. He was kidnapped by Sting the Scorpion man.
- Tagus the Horse-Man lives in the Plains. His job is to protect the cattle that live there. However when he was under Malvel's curse he was driving cattle away and killing them. He was attacked by Trillion the Three-Headed Lion and healed by the Eposes feather from Tom's shield. He also helped
- Nanook the Snow Monster live in the Icy Plains and her job is to keep the village safe from the wild animals and protect valuable plants that are for medicine and herbs. However when she is under Malvel's curse she began destroying plants causing snow storms and letting the wild animals attack villagers.
- Epos the Flame Bird lives in a volcano north of the palace. Her job is to protect crops, and keep the soil rich for the villager. However when she is under Malvel's curse (by a golden band around her leg) she was making the volcano become active making it a potential danger to villagers and the whole of Avantia. She was also causing wild fires everywhere round.
- 'Vedra and Krimon, Twin Beasts of Avantia, are a red and green dragon that protcet Rion. Malvel sends Seth to try and capture them.
- Zepha the Monster Squid is a monster that was created by Malvel for evil purposes, and to cause panic for the villagers and Sepron. He guards the golden helmet on a rock. Zephra is abile to create whirlpools and shoot ink out of his tenticales. He was defeated by Sepron. He is made entirely out of squids.
- Claw the Giant monkey is a huge monkey who was created by Mavel to wreak havoc in the dark jungle. He is wearing the chainmail. He was defeated by Ferno the Fire Dragon. He is made entirely out of monkeys.
- Soltra the Stone Charmer hid the golden breastplate inside of her body. Her single eye can turn people to stone. She was defeated by Arcta the Mountain Giant.
- Vipero the Snake Man hid the leg armour in his coils. He radiates heat and has poisonous fangs. He is made entirely out of snakes. He was defeated by Epos the Flame bird.
- Arachnid the Spider King keeps the golden gauntlets in his web. He is made entirely out of spiders. He was defeated by Nanook the Snow Monster.
- Trillion the Three-Headed Lion hides the golden boots in the long grass. He is possibly made of lions. Trillon has a very tough hide. He will drown instantly if on water.
- Spiros the Ghost Phoenix is the seventh beast of Avantia. She was turned into a ghost by Malvel, but gets her body back.
- Nawdren the Black Phoenix inhabits Spiros' body. What happened to him when Spiros got her body back is unknown.
- Torgor the Minotaur kept Tagus prisoner and his red jewel is in his axe. He lived along the river of Gorgonia. His life force is connected to his horns.
- Skor the Winged Stallion imprisoned Epos and his green jewel was in one of his hooves. He lives in the Gorgonian rainforest. He can heal all of his wounds execpt for ones on his head.
- Narga the Sea Monster almost killed Sepron. His yellow jewel was in one of his teeth. He has six heads and he lives in the Black Ocean.
- Kaymon the Gorgon Hound chained up nanook and her white jewel was in her gold collar. She lives in castle ruins and has the power to turn into three hounds.
- Tusk the Mighty Mammoth held Ferno prisoner. Her amber jewel was in her tusk. Her tusks dripped poison and she lived in the Gorgonian forest.
- Sting the Scorpion Man used to be Seth. Malvel was angry at him for failing his tasks, so he turned him into Sting. He guarded Cypher and his purple jewel was in his stinger.
- Arax the Soul Stealer is a beast that is half, man half bat. He uses his whip to take peoples souls.
- The Super Beast is made up of three beasts: Claw, Vipero and Trillion. It has used in the torment of Beast and has the body, tail and necks of Vipero, the arms of Claw, and the heads of Trillion.
- Sephir the Storm Monster is a huge hurricane controlled by Malvel. It is held together by and orb of light in it's centre. He can produce arms made of wind.
- Nixa the Death Bringer has a sweet voice that she uses to kill people by bursting their eardrums. She is a shape-shifter and her ghostly form is a blonde woman with a red dress. She lives in a mine. The sound of Tom's sword scrapping against the rock weakens her.
- Equinus the Spirit Horse looks like Tagus except his face looks like a skull and he's much bigger. His ghostly form looks like a transparent form of himself and his black heart can be shown. Equinus will run through people in his ghoslty form taking their life force. He lives in the Dead Jungle. When he can't take someones life force he will turn into a horse and a giant man.
- Rashouk the Cave Troll is not very tall, but very wide. His claws on his right hand can turn people into stone and he can swing from the stalagtites like a monkey. He lives in the Dead Peaks.
- Luna the Moon Wolf is a huge, white wolf. Her ghostly form is an invisible Luna, but her red eyes are still there. She lives in the Dead Wood and controls all the animals there. She has a pack of four cubs.
- Blaze the Ice Dragon can freeze over a volcano. He does this to the Stonewin volcano and traps Epos in ice. His ghostly form can only be harmed by shadows.
- Stealth the Ghost Panther invades the capital city. A scratch from his claws turns people evil. He has three tails that he uses to whip people to scratch them.
- Cronix the Death Crow is a huge skeletal woman like crow that was sent to capture the Dark Cauldron. She carries a lantern and prentends to be a to be a hurt travller and lures you over freezing you with her touch.
- Aldroim the Shape Shifter is a leopard like beast that can shoot jets of hot oil. If a single spark would touch her she would ignite.
- Kragos and Kildor the Two-Headed Demon, is a beast that can spilt himself inhalf for a double attack. Kragos is a giant ram and Kildor is a vicous stag. When combind they wheeled deadly throwing stars.
- Krabb, Master of the Sea, is a massive crab that eats fish and uses its pincers to defend Gwildor's seas. He is enchanted by the green poison in hus claw.
- Hawkite, Arrow of the Air, is a huge bird that flaps her wings to create great whirlwinds that ruin crop. She is turned against the land by the three green feathers in her wing.
- Rokk the Walking Mountain is a huge creature made of rocks, similar to a golem. Rokk can make the boulders crash down on his enemies. The green jewel in his eye makes him evil.
- Koldo the Arctic Warrior is a creature that is made of ice. Armed with a club of ice, Koldo protects Freeshore, the northern town of Gwildor. He is possessed by the green shield given to him.
- Trema the Earth Lord looks like a huge centipede that tunnels under the earth and protects Gwildor's mine. The slime he producers makes him evil.
- Amictus the Bug Queen has several young that protects her in the Rainbow Jungle. She is very protective of her young, and they are protective for her. She is enchanted by the venom in her pincer.
- Creta the Winged Terror, is a giant bug beast made up of beetles and can only be defeated by water from a spring in the shadow mountains.
- Komodo the Lizard King is a giant lizard that kills anyone who tries to approach the Black Cactus, which is said to have healing powers. Like normak lizards he can detach his tail and have it grow back.
- Muro the Rat Monster is a blind rat can make the vermin of Kayonia to do his evil bidding. He guards the jade ring on his tail.
- Fang the Bat Fiend is a giant bat that can steal the sight of anyone near him. He is a wicked creature that serves only Velmal.
- Murk the Swamp Man is made entirely from Kayonia's rainbow swamp. He has the power to hypnotise people with his strange red eyes, point at someone and make someone come towards them, make himself bigger by using the swamp and shoot powerful sluges of mud. He loses all of these powers when he's on dry land and becomes solid.
- Terra Curse of the Forest takes the form of a giant tree. He can trap people in a prison of bark. Its life source is a flower on one of its branches.
- Vespick the Wasp Queen is twice as tall as a man. She commands her own army of wasps and use her wings for speed and agility in combat.
- '"Mortaxe the Skeleton Warrior, has been given the heart of a savage bull beast to wreak havoc on the kingdom. He has the power to make the beast of Avantia fight.
- Convol the Cold-Blooded Brute, is a giant crocodile like that has been taken from its gome and is a massive danger to people. Tom has toget it back through the portal before it destroys everything.
- Hellion the Fiery Foe, is a huge creature of fire that burns anything it touches. Hellion can also turn into a massive fireball that destroy everything in its path.
- Krestor the Cruising Terror is a massive serpent like creature that uses its head as a club and has bones stronger than iron. He can also shoot acid from his spines.
- Madara the Midnight Warrior is a monsterous lightning fast cat that can turn its fur into glass.
- Elik the Lightning Horror, is a electric eel that can shoot lightning from its body but tires it out so needs to be struck by a lightning strike to recharge.
- Carnivora the Winged Scavenger, is a killer hyena that can blast dangerously hot air from her jaws. She also looks after her four cubs.
- Ravira Ruler of the Underworld lives underground and conrtols the hounds of Avantia with the torn whips attached to her hands.
- Balisk the Water Snake,is a terrifying snake that lives in the Western Ocean. Balisk can clone himself in two and uses his fins fly above ground.
- Koron the Jaws Of Death is a massive lion beast with a deadly scorpion stinger on his back. He roams the grassy plains and is Sanpao beast. Koron also spits and acid like poision out of his mouth.
- Hecton the Body Snacher lives near the Stowien volcano and subdues his with green mist before making them a part of his disgusting cape.
- Torno the Hurricane Dragon sends powerful winds from his mouth and guards the Tree of being.
- Kronos the Clawed Menace stalks the Icy North and yakes the appearance of a giant vulture. He can shoot deadly beams out of his eyes to blind his prey.
- Bloodboar the Buried Doom was sent by Sanpao to tear dom Avatias capital city. Bloodboar is a clever Beast and can bury under ground to get past defenses. He is also has strong armoured plating that is inderstuctible.
- Marlik the Drowning Terror is a water beast with a tencale beard and can shoot water out of his hand.
- Klaxa the Armoured Enemy is a giant rihno twice the size of a normal one. His life force is connected to his poison horn.
- Ursus the Clawed Roar was once a normal bear but now has become a beast twice his size. He can only be subed by the music of Aduro's magical harp.
- Minos the Demon Bull before was a friendly bull that was turned evil by Petra. He was turned back to normal by a magical harness.
